Our client is prominent vendor for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), frequently winning contracts for emergency generator repairs, campus infrastructure upgrades, and facility maintenance.
They are seeking an experienced Site Superintendent to oversee all onsite construction activities for commercial and federal construction projects in Brooklyn, NY. The Superintendent serves as the highest-ranking field manager and is responsible for overall project execution, production, quality control, safety, subcontractor coordination, and schedule management.
The successful candidate will maintain a continuous onsite presence, ensure compliance with project specifications, drawings, and applicable codes, and work closely with Project Managers, Owners, Architects, Engineers, and Quality Control personnel to successfully deliver projects on schedule and within budget.
Essential Responsibilities:
· Direct and supervise all daily field operations from project mobilization through closeout.
· Coordinate and oversee subcontractors, suppliers, inspectors, and field personnel.
· Maintain project schedules and monitor production to ensure milestones are achieved.
· Ensure all work complies with contract documents, specifications, applicable codes, and client requirements.
· Lead daily coordination meetings with subcontractors and project staff.
· Review construction drawings, specifications, RFIs, submittals, and change orders.
· Coordinate inspections with owners, architects, engineers, and government representatives.
· Work closely with the Contractor Quality Control (CQC) Manager to ensure implementation of the three-phase quality control process:
· Preparatory Phase
· Initial Phase
· Follow-Up Phase
· Ensure deficiencies are corrected promptly and documented appropriately.
· Monitor quality of workmanship throughout all phases of construction.
· Coordinate material deliveries, equipment utilization, and site logistics.
· Maintain daily construction reports documenting manpower, weather, equipment, production, inspections, delays, and safety activities.
· Oversee punch list completion and project closeout activities.
· Maintain project documentation in accordance with contract requirements.
· Ensure jobsite security, housekeeping, and organization at all times.
Safety Responsibilities:
· Promote a culture of safety on every project.
· Enforce OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
· Conduct daily safety meetings and toolbox talks.
· Coordinate Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs) prior to beginning new work activities.
· Ensure all personnel utilize required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
· Work closely with the Site Safety & Health Officer to maintain a safe work environment.
Required Qualifications:
· High School Diploma or GED required.
· Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred.
· Minimum 7 years of commercial construction experience.
· Minimum 5 years serving as a Superintendent managing commercial, institutional, or federal construction projects.
· Experience supervising multiple subcontractors simultaneously.
· Strong knowledge of construction sequencing, scheduling, and quality control procedures.
· Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and technical documents.
· Knowledge of New York City Building Codes and construction regulations.
· Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
· Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
· Experience with Procore, Autodesk Build, Bluebeam, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or similar construction management software.
Preferred Qualifications:
· OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification.
· First Aid/CPR Certification.
· Experience with federal construction projects.
· Experience working under U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), or other federal agency quality control requirements.
· Familiarity with FAR construction contracts and Contractor Quality Control (CQC) programs.
· Construction Quality Management (CQM) for Contractors certification preferred.
· Physical Requirements
· Ability to walk active construction sites for extended periods.
· Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and scaffolding.
· Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
· Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
· Ability to wear all required PPE.
Candidates with experience managing public works, healthcare, educational, multifamily, municipal, or federal construction projects and coordinating Contractor Quality Control programs will be highly preferred.
