POSITION OVERVIEW

The Property Accounting Supervisor is responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting operations and ensuring the accuracy, timeliness, and quality of work performed by the accounting team. This role provides direct supervision to accounting staff while also performing complex accounting tasks and supporting the monthly close process.

Accounting Supervisors operate within a defined market(s) and/or client portfolio, supporting execution and team performance under the direction of the Accounting Manager and Controller. This role serves as a key resource for training, problem-solving, and ensuring consistency across team processes. For this position, we are targeting someone local to Dallas-Fort Worth who is open to occasionally coming into the office for team collaboration (roughly 4 days/month), with the majority of days working remotely.

Organizational Scope

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting activities for assigned properties and portfolios
  • Supervise and support Staff Accountants and/or Senior Accountants
  • Operate within a defined market(s) and/or client portfolio aligned to a Controller
  • Support Accounting Managers and Controllers in delivering financial results

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Daily Accounting Operations

  • Oversee daily accounting activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and transaction processing
  • Ensure all transactions are recorded accurately and in accordance with company and client policies
  • Monitor team workloads and ensure deadlines are met
  • Assist with onboarding new properties and assignments where needed

Month-End Close & Financial Reporting

  • Support and coordinate monthly close processes
  • Review reconciliations, schedules, and reports prepared by staff
  • Assist in preparation of financial statements and reporting packages
  • Ensure completeness and accuracy of supporting documentation

Team Supervision & Development

  • Provide day-to-day supervision, guidance, and support to accounting staff
  • Train new team members and reinforce standard processes and procedures
  • Review work for quality and provide feedback for improvement
  • Promote accountability, organization, and strong team collaboration

Problem Solving & Issue Resolution

  • Serve as first level escalation point for questions, discrepancies, and issues
  • Research and resolve complex accounting or transactional issues
  • Escalate risks or concerns to Accounting Manager or Controller as needed Process Execution & Improvement
  • Ensure adherence to established workflows and internal controls
  • Identify process inefficiencies and recommend improvements
  • Support implementation of new processes, tools, or system updates

Compliance & Controls

  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, procedures, and client requirements
  • Maintain audit-ready documentation and support audit requests
  • Help enforce strong internal controls across team activities
