What You’ll Do 

 

Position Summary


The Referral Specialist processes all referral requests to outpatient centers, specialist offices, or outside services needed. Referral Specialist’s serve as a liaison for patient resources. The Referral Specialist will often work closely with insurance companies. The Referral Specialist must be able to take and follow through with delegated tasks and accountability.   

Note: This role is hybrid, which will require days in our Spring Branch or Aldine Neighborhood Center and also remote.

 

Essential responsibilities consist of but not all inclusive:  

  •  Ensures the highest level of customer service possible   
  • Displays respect and concern for all patients   
  • Attends all clinic huddles and clinic monthly meetings   
  • Expediting patient referrals to specialty offices   
  • Manages patient referrals by processing them and obtaining authorizations in timely manner per company policy.    
  • Maintain ongoing tracking and appropriate documentation on referrals to promote team awareness and ensure patient safety   
  • Ensure complete and accurate registration, including patient demographic and current insurance information  
  • Assemble information concerning patient’s clinical background and referral needs   
  • Provide and fax appropriate clinical information to specialist office   
  • Schedule, problem solve, communicate, and coordinate referral appointments with outside specialists.   
  • Updates patient information and making changes to EMR platform   
  • Review details and expectations about the referral with patients.   
  • Routinely provide patients with other clinic and community-based resource materials as appropriate.   
  • Other Duties as assigned  


What You’ll Bring

  • 1+ years progressive work experience in the healthcare industry   
  • 2+ years of customer service   
  • Experience managing referrals and authorizations    
  • Experience documenting in electronic medical records   
  • Comfortable working independently   
  • Experience in Value-based care operations preferred   
  • Fluent in Spanish is required

 

  

Education, Experience, Licensure, or Certification Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required 
  • Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, or Hospitality preferred
