As an Investment Analyst, you will support the assessment, development and investment of early‑stage technologies and ventures emerging from across the University. Working closely with Investment Managers, researchers and founders, you will help identify commercial potential, shape investment decisions and support the growth of portfolio companies within the University of Auckland Inventors’ Fund.
This role offers exposure to deep‑tech innovation, early‑stage venture investing and the commercialisation of research with global impact.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assessing the technical and commercial viability of new technologies and venture opportunities
- Producing market analysis, competitive reviews and written investment materials
- Supporting due diligence across IP, market fit, technology validation and go‑to‑market strategy
- Undertaking financial analysis, modelling and investment scenario work
- Contributing to the ongoing management and growth of the Inventors’ Fund portfolio
- Supporting entrepreneurship and commercialisation across the University ecosystem

This is a 12-Month Fixed-Term full-time role (40 hours per week, Monday to Friday) with a competitive salary per annum plus incentives and benefits, depending on experience.

You are analytically strong, commercially minded and curious about emerging technologies and start‑ups. You enjoy working across disciplines and are motivated by helping great ideas move from research to real‑world impact.
You bring a relevant degree and some experience or exposure to commercialisation, investment, IP, R&D or early‑stage ventures. You are comfortable working with complexity, synthesising information, and communicating clear insights to support decision‑making.
You will bring:
- Strong analytical, research and problem‑solving skills
- Commercial and financial acumen, with an interest in early‑stage investing
- The ability to assess markets, technologies and business models critically
- Well‑structured written communication and attention to detail
- A collaborative, proactive approach and willingness to learn in a fast‑paced environment
- Interest in innovation, entrepreneurship and translating research into impact
Experience in venture capital, start‑ups or technology commercialisation is advantageous, but not essential.
