Associate Systems Engineer

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

We are seeking an AssociateSystems Engineer (internally titled Junior Systems Engineer) to join our team on a permanent basis.

This role presents an excellent opportunity for a candidate looking to grow their career in Systems Engineering within a centralised University function, supporting a range of UoA’s core operating systems and business systems. You’ll become part of a supportive team environment and be enabled to develop your technical capability across enterprise platforms, with training provided on specific tools and systems.

Working within an Agile delivery model, you will be embedded in an end-to-end micro-service team, contributing to the analysis, design, and support of quality technical solutions aligned with University IT strategies and architectural standards

Some key accountabilities include:

• Providing day-to-day administration, support, and troubleshooting of operating systems, with a focus on Linux
• Diagnosing issues through log analysis and root cause investigation, and implementing effective solutions
• Supporting enterprise business systems and infrastructure, including proactive monitoring and alert response
• Collaborating with stakeholders and team members in an Agile environment, contributing to team discussions and delivery
• Driving continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance system performance and reliability

Our ideal candidate will bring the following skills and experience:

• 1–2 years’ experience working with Linux systems (essential)
• A solid understanding of server operating systems, including troubleshooting, performance analysis, and log investigation
• Experience diagnosing technical issues and identifying root causes in complex systems
• A passion for technology & continued learning
• The ability to build effective relationships and collaborate with stakeholders and team members
