The Director, Freight Forwarding is responsible for leading business strategy, operations, and financial performance. The role ensures that all freight forwarding activities (air, sea, and road) are carried out efficiently, profitably, and in compliance with international trade regulations. The Director will drive business growth, build strong customer and partner relationships, and develop high-performing teams while ensuring service excellence and operational integrity across the supply chain.
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and implement business strategies to grow revenue, expand market share, and improve profitability.
- Identify new trade lanes, services, and partnerships to strengthen the company’s competitive position.
- Provide direction to achieve both short- and long-term organisational goals.
Operations Management
- Oversee day-to-day freight forwarding activities (air, sea, and land), including customs clearance, trucking, and warehouse delivery.
- Ensure timely, cost-efficient, and compliant cargo handling, customs clearance, warehousing, and distribution.
- Monitor and improve KPIs such as transit times, service quality, and cost efficiency.
Financial Management
- Manage P&L, budgets, and forecasts.
- Drive profitability through cost control, pricing strategies, and operational efficiency.
- Analyse financial performance and recommend corrective measures where necessary.
Business Development & Client Relations
- Lead sales and account management teams to achieve revenue targets.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, carriers, and industry partners.
- Negotiate favourable contracts and service agreements.
Commercial
- Build and develop relationships with key customers.
- Develop strong partnerships with airlines and shipping lines to secure competitive rates.
- Coordinate monthly with the Director of Sales to align on strategy and business direction.
- Coordinate across the Transam International network and apply push–pull sales strategies.
Team Leadership
- Lead, motivate, and develop staff across operations, sales, customer service, and administration.
- Foster a high-performance culture with accountability and continuous improvement.
- Recruit and train employees to ensure skill development and succession planning.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure adherence to international trade laws, customs regulations, and company policies.
- Oversee health, safety, and environmental compliance.
- Manage risk related to cargo delays, damage, and financial exposure.
