Engineering Manager - DevOps & Infrastructure
FullTimeJob Overview
About the Role
As the Engineering Manager for DevOps & Infrastructure at Thndr, you will lead a technically strong team responsible for the foundation of our hybrid infrastructure across Egypt, Frankfurt, and the UAE. This includes Kubernetes clusters, networking, observability, CI/CD integrations, security controls, and on-prem/cloud infrastructure provisioning.
This is a deeply technical, hands-on leadership role. You will guide architectural decisions, contribute to infra design, review technical work, and help engineers grow by doing the work with them. Your mission is to ensure our infrastructure is reliable, scalable, cost-efficient, and ready to support a fast-moving fintech environment.
At Thndr, DevOps/Infra leads with enablement; building the systems, processes, and guardrails that let engineering teams own and operate their infrastructure end-to-end.
What You’ll Do
Technical Leadership & Ownership
Lead the design and evolution of our hybrid infrastructure (on-prem + cloud) and multi-region setup.
Be hands-on with Kubernetes, networking, Terraform/IaC, observability stacks, and infra automation.
Review infrastructure code, architecture proposals, and operational practices.
Drive reliability, security hardening, and performance improvements.
Make pragmatic trade-offs, set technical direction, and ensure the team executes on it.
Operational Excellence
Ensure robust monitoring, alerting, and regional failover strategies.
Partner with the Platform team to enable frictionless application delivery.
Partner with the Security team to ensure our infrastructure meets the highest standards of security and compliance.
Continuously optimize cost, capacity, and resource utilization.
Establish SLIs/SLOs and optimize for reliability and performance of the infrastructure. Own infra uptime, incident response processes, and postmortems; raise the bar on operational maturity.
Delivery & Execution
Plan and drive infrastructure initiatives and migrations end-to-end.
Ensure clarity in requirements, technical design, and execution plans.
Remove blockers early and keep work moving with urgency and quality.
Balance short-term operational needs with long-term strategic direction.
People & Team Development
Run regular 1:1s focused on technical and professional growth.
Coach engineers by pairing, guiding design, and elevating problem-solving skills.
Lead hiring and identify great DevOps talent with strong fundamentals.
Build a culture of ownership, accountability, and direct, constructive feedback.
Set clear expectations and support engineers to meet them.
What You’ll Need
4+ years of engineering experience, with at least 3 years in DevOps, SRE, or Infrastructure roles.
2+ years managing or technically leading engineers, ideally in infra-heavy environments.
Deep experience with Kubernetes, cloud providers (AWS preferred), Linux, networking fundamentals, and Terraform or equivalent IaC.
Strong understanding and previous experience of distributed systems, observability, incident response, and operational best practices.
Proven ability to build roadmaps, guide technical execution, challenge assumptions, and drive teams toward high-quality outcomes.
A direct, clear communication style and a bias toward action and clarity.
Experience in hybrid/on-prem infrastructure is a strong plus.

At the same time, we’re shaping the future of investing while actively driving the economies we serve by promoting local investment products.
History has shown that investing is the single greatest way to build long-term wealth, but before Thndr, only a very small percentage of people had access to it due to:
High barriers to entry — In the form of excessive minimum account balances, complex, outdated onboarding, and low financial literacy.
