In collaboration with Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, Southlake co-leads a unique Adolescents and Young Adults (AYA) Oncology Program, dedicated to addressing the distinct medical and psychosocial needs of patients aged 18 to 43 living with cancer. The AYA Program at Southlake, the first integrated AYA cancer program of its kind in Canada, aims to support patients through all stages of their cancer journey, from diagnosis to survivorship and/or palliation.

Position Overview

The Physician Assistant (PA) will play a key role in delivering specialized clinical care and program leadership within the AYA Oncology Program. Working as part of an interdisciplinary team across SRCC and PM, the AYA PA will provide individualized assessments, counselling, and navigation support for AYA patients while contributing to ongoing program development, patient engagement, and quality improvement initiatives.

This role offers an opportunity to work both independently and collaboratively, with partial work-from-home flexibility and a minimum on-site presence of one day per week at SRCC.

  • Address domains of support including fertility preservation, coping with treatment, survivorship, body image, sexual health, mental health, relationships, nutrition, exercise, and return to school/work.
  • Offer timely counselling on fertility and sexual health side effects and coordinate referrals with relevant services (e.g., reproductive endocrinology, urology, gynecology, psychosocial oncology).
  • Facilitate referrals to internal and external supports, developing a strong understanding of available hospital and community resources.
  • Coordinate and lead local AYA patient meet-up group events (~4 annually).
  • Serve as an accessible resource for patients, families, and staff regarding AYA-specific concerns.
