Position Summary

As an integral member of the Neurosurgical Intraoperative Monitoring department, the responsibilities of the Neurophysiological Technologist, include: performing quality neurophysiological monitoring procedures to facilitate the prevention of interoperative neurological deficits by analyzing and interpreting the patient’s neurological responses at critical moments during surgery; operating, troubleshooting and ensuring equipment is performing in an effective and efficient manner; participating in teaching, training and other educational activities; promoting neurophysiological monitoring in the community; preparing written and electronic reports required to document all procedures and test results; performing research responsibilities; performing other related patient care responsibilities to facilitate the provision of optimal patient care; observing and understanding Hospital and departmental policies and procedures; adhering to Hospital and departmental mission and value statements while maintaining patient confidentiality; performing cross-functional and other responsibilities consistent with the job classification, as required.

Duties

  • Analyzes surgery requirements; determines the degree of patient monitoring that is required during surgery.
  • Performs preoperative set up procedures.
  • Performs interoperative procedures.
  • Performs advanced monitoring for high risk neuro/spinal surgeries, independently making critical decisions on whether the patient's central nervous system has been compromised.
  • Ensures procedures are completed accurately and in accordance with departmental standards.
  • Performs a follow up evaluation of patient's neurological status for complicated cases.
  • Performs Quality Assurance and Control, as set by department standards.
