This position is reliant upon funding and may be subject to modification or termination based on resource availability.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Refugee, immigrant and other migrant families face unique challenges and barriers, as they navigate new social and cultural environments, past traumas of seeking refuge and migration, and other systemic issues and barriers to accessing equitable opportunities of access to resources and supports.  World Relief’s Early Childhood Programs (ECP) aims to ensure all immigrant and refugee children & their families have equitable access to services, resources, and opportunities to a thriving early childhood and strong kindergarten readiness skills for a successful start at the school system and beyond.     The WR Community Play and Learn Groups Facilitator will support facilitating our weekly community play groups (Kaleidoscope Play & Learn groups) for children ages 0-5 years of age and their parents, at our program locations in South King County and North Seattle. During the summer, this position will support the early learning programs, such as the WR Kinders Camp in areas of classroom teaching, and parent and volunteer engagement tasks, as needed.

This position is scheduled for 12 hours per week.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as primary facilitator for the weekly Kaleidoscope Play and Learn (KPL) sessions with children ages 0-5 years and their parents in two program locations – South King County and North Seattle. 
  • Plan session activities ensuring the program goals are met, and that KPL goals, outcomes and practices are integrated to support positive early learning outcomes for participant families. 
  • Ensure playgroup space has appropriate materials and equipment needed to support planned activities.
  • Maintain student attendance and parent sign-in records.
  • Keep classroom organized, clean, neat, and safe for children.
  • Foster a positive and respectful learning environment, scaffolding and modeling positive interactions with children that reinforce healthy and developmentally appropriate caregiver support.
  • Support volunteer engagement through timely communication and supporting volunteers supporting the play groups and other ECP programs.
  • Organize and facilitate family engagement events for participant families to help build more strong and positive social connections.   
  • Conduct program assessments and integrate parent feedback into program implementation on a regular basis.
  • Support families by regularly offering helpful information on various community resources in areas of child development, school readiness, disability support, basic needs, parent resources, etc. 
  • Communicate with the Children and Family Programs Manager regarding class progress and any issues that arise.
  • Support with summer early learning programs, such as the Kinders Camp, in areas of classroom teaching, volunteer and parent engagement, and any camp related tasks, as needed.
  • Work alongside others in the Children and Family Team, assisting the program as a whole and collaborating on new initiatives or projects when needed.
  • Attend Kaleidoscope Play & Learn (KP&L) grantee meetings, and other relevant program trainings and events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Mature and personal Christian faith
  • Committed to the mission, vision, and values of World Relief
  • Desire to serve and empower the Church to impact vulnerable communities
  • Able to affirm and/or acknowledge World Reliefs Core Beliefs, Statement of Faith, Christian Identity and National Association of Evangelicals' For the Health of The Nation document
  • Desire to serve children and their families as a whole unit for greater success for both parents and children.   
  • At least 1-2 years of educational or professional work experience in early childhood education or parent engagement, with children ages 0-5 years and their parents.   
  • Good oral and written communication skills in English; additional language skills strongly preferred especially Dari, Pashto or Spanish.   
  • Must be able to establish strong relationships cross-culturally.   
  • Ability to communicate effectively, professionally, collaboratively, and positively with students, parents, volunteers, and other staff.   
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.   
  • Ability and willingness to travel to partner sites where the program is hosted.   
  • Valid Driver's license and ability to pass a driving record check.   
  • Current (or ability to quickly secure) CPR/First Aid Certification required.   
  • Individuals with lived immigrant/refugee experience strongly encouraged to apply.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in facilitating parent and child group activities   
  • Experience in understanding and helping families connect with community resources.   
  • Experience in successfully engaging parents and caregivers from various cultural backgrounds in their child’s early learning and development.   
  • Ability to facilitate meaningful opportunities for social connections for children and families through family engagement events/opportunities. 
  • Knowledge of play-based learning or WAKIDS or other early learning guidelines and best practices   
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); and willingness to use internal tracking applications.   
  • Ability to work in office settings, partner sites, participant home visits, with minimal day-to-day supervision, and to prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines.
