Black Ember Games, an all-new development team within Xsolla, is looking for a Technical Designer to join our team building an asymmetrical multiplayer FPS using Unreal Engine 5.
Our small internal team operates with an indie mindset, fueled by our passion for games. We're a diverse, lively group dedicated to exploring new ideas within genres we love to play. We enjoy a hybrid work model, collaborating in our central Berlin and Novi Sad offices. Full remote is a possibility.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborate across disciplines to define, prototype, and implement gameplay systems, tools, and mechanics that support multiplayer FPS gameplay in Unreal Engine5
- Build, maintain, and optimize Blueprint systems for gameplay logic, UI functionality, and interactive game elements.
- Develop and refine scripting frameworks for game modes, objectives, scoring systems, player progression, and match flow.
- Support level designers and gameplay designers by creating reusable Blueprint components, prefabs, and data-driven tools to accelerate content creation.
- Diagnose and fix gameplay bugs, scripting errors, and replication issues in multiplayer environments.
- Collaborate with programmers to implement new gameplay features, ensuring design vision aligns with technical feasibility and performance goals.
- Conduct technical performance profiling and optimization for game logic, network replication, and Blueprint efficiency.
- Contribute to documentation of technical design systems, workflows, and best practices to maintain consistency and scalability across the project.
REQUIREMENTS
- 3-5+ years of professional game development experience, with a focus on technical design, scripting, or gameplay systems.
- Experience shipping or supporting multiplayer FPS, TPS, or action adventure titles.
- Strong proficiency with Unreal Engine5, especially Blueprint scripting, gameplay framework, and data asset systems.
- Proven experience implementing and debugging multiplayer gameplay systems, including replication, matchmaking, and game state management.
- Solid understanding of FPS gameplay principles, player interaction, and combat system design.
- Familiarity with modular, data-driven design and scalable workflows for multiplayer games.
- Experience integrating tools and features that empower level and gameplay designers.
- Knowledge of source control systems (Perforce) and collaborative, multi-disciplinary development workflows.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills; able to interpret design goals into efficient, maintainable systems.
- Fluent English communication (written and verbal).
- Working knowledge of C++ in Unreal Engine, particularly for extending Blueprint functionality.
- Experience with game mode scripting, player ability systems, or AI behavior integration.
- Understanding of technical design documentation, tool pipelines, and production-ready workflows.
- Passion for multiplayer shooters and a deep understanding of the genre’s technical and gameplay nuances (e.g., Counter-Strike, Valorant, Rainbow 6 Siege).
