Job Overview

The Supervisor is responsible for managing and optimizing all aspects of the production process in one section of the processing facility. This role involves coordination, planning, and supervision to maintain the highest standards of quality, efficiency, and safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Production Planning & Control

  • Plan daily and shift-wise production as per target and order requirement

  • Allocate manpower for processes like steaming, cutting, drying, peeling, grading, packing.

  • Ensure smooth workflow with minimum downtime and bottlenecks.

  • Monitor output vs target and take corrective actions

  1. Process Control & Quality

  • Ensure correct processing parameters (steam pressure, drying temperature, moisture level)

  • Monitor Breakage%, scorched kernels,cuts,Splits.

  • Ensure grading is done as per AFI / customer specification.

  • Coordinate with QA/QC for quality checks and rework decisions

  1. Food Safety & Compliance

  • Implement GMP, GHP, HACCP practices on the shop floor

  • Ensure hygiene, personal cleanliness, PPE usage by workers

  • Prevent foreign matter, contamination, and mix-ups

  • Support audits (BRC, Organic, etc.)

  1. Manpower Management

  • Supervise workers, line leaders, and helpers

  • Train workers on correct handling, cutting, grading, and hygiene

  • Control absenteeism, productivity, and discipline

  • Motivate team to achieve quality and yield targets

  1. Yield & Waste Control

  • Monitor out-turn %, kernel recovery, broken percentage

  • Minimize processing losses and wastage

  • Ensure proper segregation and disposal of rejects, spills, and waste

  1. Machine & Equipment Coordination

  • Ensure machines are operated safely and correctly

  • Report breakdowns and coordinate with maintenance team

  • Avoid misuse and overheating of machines (cutters, dryers, sealers)

  • Maintain basic production equipment records

  1. Material & Inventory Control

  • Ensure FIFO / FEFO for raw nuts and kernels

  • Control movement of raw cashew, WIP, finished goods

  • Avoid mix-up of grades and lots

  • Coordinate with stores for packing material availability

  1. Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain daily production reports

  • Record yield, breakage, downtime, and manpower

  • Ensure traceability records are completed correctly

  • Report deviations and corrective actions to management

  1. Safety & Housekeeping

  • Ensure safe working practices and accident prevention

  • Maintain 5S / housekeeping in production area

  • Ensure fire safety and emergency procedures are followed.

  1. Coordination & Communication

  • Coordinate with QA, Maintenance, Stores, HR, and Dispatch

  • Communicate production status and issues to management

  • Support new product trials or process improvements

Requirements and Skills:

  • Willing to move to Kisemvule/Mkuranga or near by

  • Bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree is a plus.

  • Proven experience in industrial production, preferably in the food processing industry.

  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to manage and motivate a diverse team.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to oversee complex production processes.

  • In-depth knowledge of quality control, inventory management, and safety protocols.

  • Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating across departments.

  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles is a plus.

  • Familiarity with cashew nut processing and organic food production is highly advantageous.
