I. Job Summary:
Amref Health Africa in Ethiopia is looking for experienced Project Officer to be based in Debrebrhan - to coordinate “Countering Harmful Practices F4B Project’’.
The Project Officer will provide overall regional level coordination and support for the Countering Harmful Practices F4B Project, funded by the Dutch Ministry for Foreign Affairs (MFA). This project aims to strengthen local civil society organizations to prevent and respond to harmful practices including Child, Early and Forced Marriage (CEFM), Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C), teenage pregnancy, and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Amhara region.
The Project Officer will support the effective and timely implementation of the project at regional level, ensuring activities are delivered smoothly, resources are used efficiently, and partnerships are well coordinated. working under the guidance of the Program Technical Lead, the role focuses on day-to-day coordination, monitoring, and reporting of project activities within the assigned regions, in line with approved plans, budgets, donor requirements, and Amref health Africa policies. The Project officer will work closely with regional government bureaus, Plan International Ethiopia, and local implementing partners to facilitate collaboration, address implementation challenges, and support the achievement of project results. The role will contribute to promoting gender equality, disability inclusion, and climate-sensitive approaches in regional implementation.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Implementation
- Plan and implement project activities that strengthen and empower local CSOs and community actors to create enabling environments that prevent harmful practices such as FGM/C and CEFMU, while ensuring the availability and accessibility of comprehensive, inclusive, and gender-responsive services to protect girls and support survivors at all levels.
- Support the implementation of Child Protection and SRH interventions in health centers, safe houses, and One-Stop Centers.
- Facilitate integration of child protection and SRH services within existing health and social service structures.
- Ensure survivor-centered, child-friendly, and gender-responsive approaches are applied across all interventions.
Capacity Building and Technical Support
- Provide technical support and on-the-job mentoring to service providers, including health workers, social workers, and case managers.
- Support the project trainings, workshops, and review meetings related to CSO and local partner strengthening, child protection, GBV response, and SRH service delivery.
- Assist institutions in applying national guidelines, protocols, and minimum standards for child protection and SRH services.
Coordination and Partnership
- Coordinate with government counterparts, implementing partners, and other stakeholders at facility, district, and regional levels.
- Strengthen referral pathways and coordination mechanisms among health centers, safe houses, One-Stop Centers, and justice actors.
- Participate in technical working groups and coordination forums related to child protection and SRH.
- Coordinate cross border taskforce to collaborate for the eradication of FGM and other violence
Monitoring, Reporting, and Documentation
- Support routine monitoring of project activities and service delivery performance at supported institutions.
- Collect, compile, and analyze data related to child protection and SRH services, ensuring confidentiality and ethical standards.
- Contribute to timely and quality progress reports, success stories, and lessons learned.
- Document best practices and challenges related to institutional strengthening and service delivery.
Safeguarding and Compliance
- Ensure all project activities comply with safeguarding, child protection, and ethical standards.
- Promote safe reporting, confidentiality, and survivor protection in all program interventions.
