The Project Officer - AMR will provide technical implementation support across the AMR component, with particular emphasis on antimicrobial stewardship, use of AMR surveillance evidence, One Health coordination and follow-up of national and facility-level technical actions.
DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Technical Implementation
- Support the effective implementation of approved Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) and Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) interventions in accordance with the approved work plan, budget, results framework, donor requirements, and national policies, guidelines, and standards.
- Coordinate and provide technical support for the implementation of the Commonwealth Partnerships for Antimicrobial Stewardship (CwPAMS) hub-and-spoke model, strengthening collaboration among pharmacy teams, multidisciplinary clinical teams, Medicines and Therapeutics Committees (MTCs), and health facility management.
- Facilitate the review, interpretation, and utilization of AMR surveillance data, facility antibiograms, antimicrobial consumption data, and medicines use information to strengthen evidence-based prescribing practices and antimicrobial stewardship interventions.
- Support the development, adaptation, and dissemination of technical guidelines, standard operating procedures, mentorship tools, training materials, policy briefs, meeting documentation, and other implementation resources.
- Participate in technical mentorship, supportive supervision, quality improvement initiatives, and capacity-building activities to strengthen antimicrobial stewardship implementation at national and sub-national levels.
2. Government and Stakeholder Coordination
- Maintain effective collaboration with the National AMR Secretariat, Medicines Control Committee (MCC), AMR Technical Working Groups (TWGs), National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL), sentinel surveillance sites, professional associations, academic institutions, implementing partners, and One Health stakeholders.
- Coordinate follow-up of technical recommendations, action points, and decisions arising from governance, coordination, and project implementation meetings, ensuring timely implementation and reporting.
- Support the planning, coordination, and implementation of World AMR Awareness Week (WAAW) 2026 activities, transition planning, and the dissemination of AMR evidence, policy briefs, technical publications, and knowledge products.
- Represent the project in technical working groups, coordination meetings, scientific forums, and stakeholder engagement platforms as delegated by the Project Manager, fostering collaboration and government ownership of project interventions.
- Promote effective communication, coordination, and information sharing among government institutions, development partners, healthcare professionals, and other key stakeholders to enhance the implementation and sustainability of AMR and AMS initiatives.
3. Monitoring, Documentation and Technical Quality
- Monitor implementation progress against approved work plans, milestones, outputs, performance indicators, and deliverables, identifying implementation challenges and recommending timely corrective actions.
- Collaborate closely with the Laboratory Officer, Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Officer, and relevant stakeholders to support data collection, verification, quality assurance, analysis, interpretation, and utilization for evidence-based decision-making.
- Prepare high-quality technical reports, implementation updates, presentations, briefing notes, donor reports, and other project documentation in accordance with organizational, donor, and national reporting requirements.
- Document project achievements, lessons learned, best practices, innovations, and success stories to support knowledge management, policy dialogue, programme learning, and continuous quality improvement.
- Ensure that all project activities are implemented in compliance with approved technical standards, national guidelines, organizational policies, donor requirements, and quality assurance frameworks.
