Job Summary
The Project Assistant will support day-to-day implementation of the SRH Next Alliance Project at field level, working closely with local government structures, health facilities, schools, youth and women-led groups, community actors, and project partners. The role will contribute to improving access to quality, youth-friendly, gender-responsive and disability-inclusive sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services and information, while strengthening community engagement, referral systems, accountability and local coordination. The Project Assistant will also support routine monitoring, documentation, reporting, activity logistics and follow-up of agreed actions across the assigned woredas. Frequent field travel is an essential part of the position.
Project Context
The Ethiopian SRH next Alliance, led by Plan Ethiopia and comprising five organizations, focuses on urgent SRH needs in Amhara, Tigray and Afar. The project prioritizes equitable, gender-responsive, disability-inclusive and youth-friendly services, local leadership, youth and women-led civil society organizations, stronger accountability, and coordinated action. Its three core outcome areas are: (1) increased availability, accessibility, acceptability and quality of SRH services; (2) increased access to and use of comprehensive, age-appropriate and disability-inclusive SRH information and education; and (3) a stronger enabling environment for the SRH of women, young people and marginalized groups.
Roles and Responsibilities
Project implementation and field coordination
- Support planning, organization and implementation of approved project activities in the assigned duty station and woredas, in line with workplans, budgets, technical guidance and Amref procedures.
- Maintain regular working relationships with woreda health offices, health facilities, schools, youth structures, women- and youth-led organizations, community leaders and other relevant stakeholders.
- Assist with coordination of meetings, trainings, dialogues, community events, outreach activities and review sessions, including participant mobilization, venue and material preparation, attendance documentation and action tracking.
- Conduct frequent field visits to assigned implementation sites and provide timely follow-up on agreed actions, implementation bottlenecks and emerging needs.
- Support conflict-sensitive and context-adaptive implementation, and promptly communicate access, operational or security concerns to the supervisor.
Support to youth-friendly SRHR services and referral pathways
- Support health facilities and local stakeholders in the establishment, strengthening and routine follow-up of youth-friendly, confidential and integrated SRH service delivery arrangements, including youth-friendly service corners where applicable.
- Assist project teams to organize capacity-strengthening activities for SRH service providers on respectful, non-judgmental, adolescent- and gender-responsive, disability-inclusive and survivor-centred care.
- Support mobile and community outreach activities intended to reach remote, marginalized, out-of-school and conflict-affected adolescents and young people.
- Facilitate and follow up functional referral linkages among SRH, HIV/STI, SGBV response, psychosocial support, legal aid and other relevant services, in accordance with approved project approaches and safeguarding requirements.
- Support youth and community feedback mechanisms, service monitoring and other accountability activities aimed at identifying and addressing service gaps.
SRH information, education and youth engagement
- Support peer education, structured youth dialogue, safe-space and youth club activities, including linkages between education activities and youth-friendly services.
- Assist schools and community structures in implementing approved age-appropriate SRH education activities, including relevant life-skills and menstrual health components.
- Support dissemination and use of approved SRH information through project channels, including digital and community-based approaches, while ensuring content is appropriate, inclusive and consistent with project guidance.
- Promote meaningful participation of adolescents and young people, including girls, young women, persons with disabilities and other marginalized groups, throughout activity planning, implementation and feedback processes.
- Support engagement of parents, caregivers, boys and men, religious leaders, elders and community influencers in dialogue activities designed to address harmful social and gender norms and strengthen acceptance of SRH.
Monitoring, documentation and reporting
- Collect, verify and organize routine project monitoring information, attendance records, activity reports, referral follow-up information and other required documentation using approved tools.
- Support timely data entry and submission to project information systems and contribute to data quality checks in coordination with the project and MEAL teams.
- Prepare concise field updates, activity reports, case examples, lessons learned and implementation challenges for review by the supervisor.
- Maintain well-organized electronic and hard-copy project files and ensure supporting documents are complete and retrievable.
- Contribute to periodic review meetings by presenting field-level progress, gaps and follow-up actions, and support documentation of good practices and learning.
Operational and administrative support
- Support preparation of activity requests, participant lists, logistical arrangements, procurement follow-up and settlement documentation in accordance with Amref procedures and assigned responsibilities.
- Coordinate closely with finance, logistics, administration and program colleagues to facilitate timely implementation of field activities.
- Use project resources responsibly and support proper documentation, custody and distribution of project materials and supplies.
- Perform other project-related duties reasonably assigned by the supervisor that are consistent with the purpose and level of the position.
