Job Overview

The Senior Press Officer must have significant experience working in fast-paced environments for government officials or executives; the Sr. Press Officer must be able to expertly communicate complex policy positions to the media as well as a general audience; the Sr. Press Officer will work closely with the Director of Communications to coordinate press conferences, media briefings and serve as a spokesperson to the press corps;

Responsibilities:

Serve as on-the-record spokesperson for NYCPA;
Execute communications strategies to establish the Office as a trusted voice to help ensure that all New York City residents are treated with dignity.
Work with team members to align press and digital strategy.
Plan, coordinate and advance press conferences and public events;
Screen and respond to daily inquiries from reporters;
Proactively pitch interview and story ideas to press corps;
Develop media plans for issue-specific initiatives and long term goals alongside Communications Director and department;
Author materials intended for distribution to reporters and media outlets
Aid in authoring and posting social media content to various platforms;
Work closely with local and ethnic media to facilitate regular coverage of initiatives;
Prepare briefing documents and talking points to prepare the Public Advocate for external events and interviews;
Work non-traditional hours and be on-call regularly, including weekends, holidays and emergency situations;
Travel around New York City as necessary with the Public Advocate.
