We are recruiting on behalf of a leading specialist eye care provider for a Bank Optometrist based in York. Our client operates a network of dedicated eye hospitals across the UK, delivering world-class ophthalmic care across a range of specialisms including cataract surgery, refractive treatment, glaucoma, and medical retina. With a strong focus on clinical excellence and patient outcomes, this is a fantastic opportunity to join a highly skilled multi-disciplinary team in a modern, purpose-built clinical environment.
Job Purpose
Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the day-to-day operations of the clinic. Depending on the needs of the site, you will perform some or all of the following:
• Pre-operative and post-operative NHS cataract assessments.
• Pre-operative and post-operative private refractive surgery assessments.
• Out-of-hours emergency on-call (evenings and weekends).
• YAG capsulotomy consultation and treatment.
• Co-management of patients within a consultant-led Medical Retina pathway.
• Co-management of patients within a doctor-led Glaucoma pathway.
• Co-management of other ophthalmology pathways as they arise.
Key Responsibilities
• Run clinics in a professional manner and effectively manage patient flow and appointments within a high-volume environment.
• Document findings in electronic medical record systems.
• Provide first-line clinical advice to patients and follow the appropriate means of referral to a medical practitioner if necessary.
• Keep up to date with and follow all relevant policies and complete all mandatory training courses.
• Help to control cross infection by enforcing the Uniform Policy and all procedures for the maintenance of a clean working environment.
• Follow correct procedures for documenting and reporting any accident or incident.
• Responsible for achieving set conversion rates from consultation to booking of treatment.
• Participate in clinical or business-related audits as required.
• Participate in the out-of-hours on-call rota.
• Travel to other hospital sites as required for training, meetings, or occasional cover.
• Support and deliver relevant training and induction of optometrists where required.
• Maintain own continuing professional development as per GOC requirements and work within GOC Standards of Practice.
Person Specification
Experience & Qualifications
• Current GOC registration as a fully qualified optometrist, ideally with at least 2 years' continuous registration.
• Previous hospital or refractive experience is ideal but not essential; full training will be provided.
• IP qualification is desirable but not essential.
• Experience of working to conversion targets and other business KPIs.
